State Representative Sara Feigenholtz serves Illinois’ 12th District, which encompasses Lakeview, Lincoln Park, and Near North neighborhoods. Representative Feigenholtz authors policy on a multitude of complex legislative measures including healthcare, human services, and adoption related issues. She has spent her career fighting to improve the quality of life of working families, seniors, women, and the uninsured.
Representative Feigenholtz’s passion for equal access to healthcare earned her a decade-long Chairmanship of Human Services Appropriations Committee, wherein she managed a budget of $23 billion. Her tenure earned her the post of Assistant Majority Leader.
Representative Feigenholtz was the lead sponsor of the Affordable Care Act’s expansion, which provides access to 650,000 of Illinois uninsured.
Representative Feigenholtz is a national leader on adoption reform legislation. In 2010, she passed landmark legislation granting adult adoptees access to their original birth certificates making Illinois the state with the broadest expansion of adoptee rights in the United States.
