Queer Bits Film Fest

About Queer Bits Film Festival

Pride Films and Plays’ Queer Bits Film Festival is moving into its fifth year and prides itself in providing the best LGBTQ+ short films with their Chicago premieres.

The first screening and incarnation of Queer Bits occurred in November 2012 in Center on Halsted’s Hoover-Leppen Theatre. In November 2013, five short films received their Chicago-premieres in the same venue during Pride Films and Plays’ annual Gay Film Weekend. In June 2014, Pride Films and Plays presented Queer Bits Film Festival, a sold-out 90 minute program of short films and webisodes. In November of the same year, Queer Bits Fall Film Festival was presented on another sold-out night including foreign language, animated, and student short films and documentaries. In 2015, Queer Bits Summer Film Festival was presented and included an array of foreign films from six different countries and was followed by Queer Bits Fall Film Festival II which was expanded into two programs to showcase the breadth of diversity and quality filmmaking submitted to the festival. In 2017, Queer Bits AltReels was presented and showcased experimental and non-traditional films followed by Queer Bits Fall Film Festival III which included films mostly directed and written by female-identified filmmakers.

As of 2016, PFP’s Queer Bits Film Festivals screened  55+ short films from over a dozen countries.
