PRIDE CAMP – PFP’s New Education Program!

Summer programs include Theater for Young Audiences, Rainbow Shakespeare for High School Students, Puppetry from Tristan Tom, and more! Pride Arts Center is creating all-inclusive learning environments for LGBTQ+ allies. This will include summer Pride Camps for middle school and high school aged students, using theater arts to learn more about navigating our complex world. Our Theater for Young Audiences (TYA) program will produce plays for families looking to share stories with their children that have themes/characters living outside of society’s traditional gender binary. These performances are by professional actors.Enroll in Pride Camp here. Classes RAINBOW SHAKESPEARE High School students can sign up for Rainbow Shakespeare, a week-long workshop taught by Pride Films and Plays Artistic Associate Derek Van Barham that uses Shakespeare’s plays to explore changing gender norms. There are two unique session of Rainbow Shakespeare – July 10 and July 24. OUR WORLD OUR WAY Middle School students can sign up for OUR WORLD OUR WAY, a one-week workshop creating a musical which celebrates life today. That program will be held the week of July 17. PAC presents Queer Bits Film Festival

Pride Films and Plays announces that several short films will receive receiving their Chicago premieres during Queer Bits Film Festival. Dozens of entries were received from countries around the world for consideration. The screening begins at 7:30 on June 17, and will be followed by a brief talkback and social hour with the audience and special guests .  Please come early and have a drink with us! Warning: some of the short films contain adult themes, nudity, and strong language. You are going to love them! Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at pridefilmsandplays.com. PAC Presents The Boys in the Band

Widely acknowledged to be the first gay-themed play to attract mainstream attention, it opened at a New York City off-Broadway theatre in 1968 where it ran for 1001 performances. Crowley’s play of nine gay men at a birthday party that descends into a night of truth-telling and personal discovery was also produced as a feature film directed by William Friedkin, released in 1970. The reading’s cast includes Pride Films and Plays Company Members Nelson Rodriguez, Patrick Rybarczyk, Shaun Baer, Kris Hyland, and Edward Fraim, joined by Christopher Kauffman, Nick Bryant, Roy Samra and Aaron Reynolds. PAC Presents SheFest

SheFest (formerly LezFest) is Pride Arts Center’s’ semi-annual celebration of Chicago’s queer female and non-binary artists. SheFest showcases the diverse range of queer female and non-binary artists in Chicago as well as the diverse stories and experiences of queer femininity. The sixth installment of the festival, this year’s SheFest will be hosted by stand-up comedian Shannon Noll, and will feature spoken word poetry, Moth-style stories, comedy, clowning, a fire act, and dance. The performance will be: June 12 at 7:30pm at the Pride Arts Center’s Broadway Theatre, located at 4139 N. Broadway, Chicago. Tickets are $15 for VIP and $10 General Admission. Purchase tickets here. Pride Arts Center – Nearly 50!

“Nearly 50” – Pride Arts Center celebrates its first Pride Month on Broadway with 30 days of plays, readings and special events  On the cusp of the 50th Anniversary of the seminal gay play The Boys in the Band, Pride Arts Center presents a slate of readings, productions, and special events that look at gay works past and present. Staged readings are The Boys in the Band by Mart Crowley (1968) and Jumpers for Goalposts by Tom Wells (2013), a British play about homophobia in sports. Limited run productions include David Pevsner’s solo show Musical Comedy Whore, and BEDS, a double-bill of classic plays Jerker (1986) and Two Boys in Bed on a Cold Winter Night (1995). Special events include a staged reading of The Great Trans* Play Contest winner, SheFest – an evening of performances featuring queer women, Queer Bits Film Festival, and the Broadway in the Broadway Cabaret. The celebration will conclude with Unity in Dance, with choreography by members of the Gus Giordano Dance Company. Performances will be in The Broadway, Pride Arts Center, 4139 N. Boys Just Frockin’ Around

Pride Films and Plays presents Boys Just Frocking Around, A Gay Burlesque. Legendary Honey West will host the evening, accompanied by Robert Ollis. The show begins at 7:30 pm on May 2nd, 2017 in The Broadway at The Pride Arts Center, 4139 N. Broadway. Many outstanding Chicago drag artists will be performing at the event including Edie Moorecock, Velicoty Metropolis, Jackson Masters, Charity Sharealike, Kallie Mauri, Helena Handbasket and Cassi Nova. VIP tickets are $30 and include one cocktail. Broadway in The Broadway

Chris Pazdernik works his magic to create a sizzling cabaret of Broadway proportions! The first part of the evening will feature work from new musicals, or musicals with a Chicago connection.  Part II celebrates famed Broadway composer Andrew Lippa. On March 30, 1970, the history of musical theater was changed forever with just two words from Lauren Bacall on opening night of Applause, the musical version of All About Eve. For The Love Of (or, the Roller Derby Play) – a world premiere

When Joy, a driftless young woman, gets on the Brooklyn Scallywags and meets the star, Lizzie Lightning, she and her long-term partner Michelle find their lives turned upside down. For the Love Of asks how much you’re willing to sacrifice – or lose – in order to follow your heart. This world premiere play by Gina Femia, a Brooklyn born and based playwright whose work has been presented in more than 30 festivals locally, nationally and internationally, will open March 16 under the direction of Rachel Edwards Harvith. Press opening is March 20, 2017.
