Unwrapped: The XXXmas Cabaret

Join us on Saturday, December 17 at 8:00 in The Broadway at Pride Arts Center, 4139 N Broadway, as PFP Presents UNWRAPPED: The XXXmas Cabaret. The evening features everything from nice to naughty, with singers, strippers, comics and queens of all kinds as we enjoy the spirit of the holiday with the stars of Chicago’s comedy, burlesque, and cabaret scenes. Host for the evening is Honey West, who also stars in PFP’s upcoming production of PRISCILLA: QUEEN OF THE DESERT. Performers for the evening are the Sinzation Dancers, Lola Madison (Miss Latina Continental 2016), Monica Munro (Miss Continental 1993), GayCo., Boylesque, and more! Broadway’s CAPATHIA JENKINS and RAYVON OWEN headline PFP’s Simply Sensational

Pride Films and Plays’ annual fall benefit, Simply Sensational, celebrates the greatest songs written for women in the Broadway canon, with Broadway great  Capathia Jenkins headlining.  American Idol star Rayvon Owen has now joined the cast ! Descend the stairs below 4707 N Broadway to the speakeasy cabaret at Uptown Underground and hear Broadway’s greatest songs for women performed by the best women – and men – in Chicago’s musical theater scene. A select number of VIP tickets are available for the benefit at $150, and include a pre-show reception with appetizers and open wine bar at 6 pm at Uptown Underground, 4707 N Broadway. VIP ticket holders also enjoy reserved center-section seating for the 7:15 pm performance. General Admission tickets are $75 and include the performance and a post-show dessert reception. A Conversation with Shane Bitney Crone

Pride Films and Plays invites you to A Conversation with Shane Bitney Crone on Sunday, November 6, at 11 a.m. at The Broadway, part of the Pride Arts Center at 4147 N Broadway. Bitney Crone’s heartbreaking story of lost love was told in the documentary Bridegroom, a film by Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. The emotional love story of Shane and Tom, two young men in a loving and committed relationship which was cut tragically short by a misstep off the side of a roof, and ripped forever asunder by the reaction of Tom’s family to this awful accident. Bitney Crone initially made a YouTube video – It Could Happen To You – which has been watched nearly 5,500,000 times, and inspired the longer film. Crone is an activist, speaker, writer and filmmaker who will share his experiences with Pride Films and Plays and our community. It will also kick off PFP’s Gay Film Weekend which features five staged readings of new screenplays at Center on Halsted, November 11 to 13. Join Pride Films and Plays as we raise some funds while you raise a glass at Marty’s Martini Bar. PFP to open Pride Arts Center!

Pride Films and Plays, the LGBTQ+ focused company founded in 2010, will take up residence in the two theaters at 4139 and 4147 N. Broadway in Uptown that were recently vacated by Profiles Theatre, Executive Director David Zak announced today. The 90-seat space at 4139 N. Broadway will serve as the primary venue for the company’s stage productions and will be named The Broadway. The 50-seat studio a few doors north at 4147 N. Broadway, to be dubbed The Buena, will serve chiefly as a rental venue. Zak says “We will welcome arts groups of all types – theaters, film fests, comics, musicians, performance artists – who share our mission to speak for the underrepresented populations of our community. The Pride Arts Center will be a safe and open place for all artists.” 46th Ward Alderman James Cappleman said, “We enthusiastically welcome Pride Films and Plays to Uptown. Performing arts organizations enhance the quality of life, bring economic activity and promote safety in our neighborhoods. LezFest 2016

Pride Films and Plays is delighted to present its fourth installment of LezFest; a one-night variety show which features lesbian and genderqueer performers through music, movement, spoken word, storytelling, and stand-up comedy. LezFest IV is produced by PFP company member Carolyn Reynolds and is directed by Patrice Foster and will feature exciting new talent as well as some past performers who have helped make this event a sold-out success three shows running. Performers in LezFest IV include Ali Hoefnagel, Lauren Sivak, Avi Roque, Tien Tran, Niki Gee, Alex Dauphin, Mia Vivens, Riley Mondragon, Jessica Paul, Ana Martinez Medina, Black Heaven, and Goddess Warrior. LezFest IV: A One Night Fling is Monday, July 18th at 7pm at Mary’s Attic (5400 North Clark). General Admission tickets for LezFest are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. A History of Summer

Pride Films and Plays presents a special workshop of the glorious new musical A History of Summer, with music and lyrics by Jonathan Monro and book by Adam Mathias. Both of the authors have extensive credits (see full bios below) and will be coming to Chicago for one week to work with director David Zak, music director Robert Ollis, a cast of 16 and a five piece band for the reading. Performances are at 7:00 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday June 28 and 29 at Theater Wit, 1229 W Belmont. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here or 1 800 737 0984. A History of Summer covers the period between 1869 and the present day, following the stories of a number of friends, couples and siblings who journey to Fire Island for beachfront relaxation, romance and escape. Over the years, the Fire Island communities of Cherry Grove and the Pines develop into a hugely popular LGBT resort, with summer residents coming from New York City and beyond. PFP Announces Great Gay Play Contest Semi-finalists

  A slate of 11 vibrant and kinetic new LGBTQ+ plays and musicals have emerged as Semi-Finalists in Pride Films and Plays’ 2016 Great Gay Play and Musical Contest. They come from writers across the United States, and were selected by a reading team from across the country doing blind readings of the manuscripts. The semi-finalists are: All-American Boy by Donald Gecewicz Another Horatio Alger Story by Jason Jacobs Book of Hours by Thomas Klocke Five Husbands by B.V. ‘The Boys in Briefs’ – Final Performance!

Chicago, IL – PFP’s new singing quartet The Boys In Briefs made their sensational debut at Uptown Underground to a raucous sold out crowd on January 26 in Boys in Briefs: At the Beach! And now the Boys are prepping for their final performance on April 26. This upbeat evening of summertime features Emmy Award-winner Scott Gryder, Travis Austin Wright, and PFP Company Members and the stars of PFP’s The Boy From Oz, Chris Logan and Luke Meierdiercks.
