**JEFF RECOMMENDED** – ‘The Book of Merman’ Now At The Apollo!

Pride Films and Plays Jeff Recommended production of The Book of Merman continues at Apollo Studio Theatre through May 17. The new musical comedy by Jeff Award-winning author Leo Schwartz has been playing to sellout crowds at Mary’s Attic in Andersonville since its opening on January 17, 2015. Showtimes at the Apollo are 7:30 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays; and 3:30 pm on Sundays. Tickets are $30 for all performances, with $5 discounts for seniors and students and are on sale through Ticketmaster and the Apollo box office (773-935-6100).The final performance is May 17. When two Mormons ring a doorbell marked E.M. in a small town, they have no idea that a certain Ethel will open the door. With some dazzling parody music and Schwartz’s original songs, you will laugh throughout The Book of Merman and leave smiling, as it takes you beyond parody and into a sweet story of self-awareness and acceptance. It feels like 2015 just arrived, and Pride Films & Plays already has a lot to celebrate!  The Book of Merman has been extended by popular demand, our Great Gay Play finalists have just been announced, and we’re about to open a show at the Steppenwolf Garage. We’re ready to raise a glass, sing a song, and spend the afternoon with friends like you!   Join us on Sunday, March 8 for AFTERNOON DELIGHT– a Celebration of all things Pride! The party is from 4-6PM at Ada Street Chicago (1664 N Ada St). Tickets are $50, and include live entertainment, snacks, and a selection of beer, wine, and signature cocktails. Gay Play Weekend Features 5 Enhanced Staged Readings

GAY PLAY WEEKEND features four new plays and one new musical! Performances will be held May 15 to 17 at Hoover-Leppen Theater of Center on Halsted.   Pride Films and Plays has for the last five years celebrated unique voices in the annual Great Gay Play And Musical Contest. And the finalists for 2015 once again represent the best and brightest in ‘What’s New And What’s Next’ in LGBT Theater. Enhanced staged readings of the four new plays and one new musical will be held May 15 to 17 at Center on Halsted’s Hoover-Leppen Theatre. Gay Film Weekend

Congratulations JB Berg, Barry Brennessel, Chris Halligan, James Rosenfield, and John Woodard! This fall, Pride Films and Plays developmental work with writers from around the country continues with Gay Film Weekend for new screenplay development. Five finalists- Chris Halligan, James Rosenfield, Barry Brennessel, John Woodard, and JB Berg – have been named in PFP’s Great Gay Screenplay Contest, an international contest for screenplays with LGBT characters and themes. The screenplays named as finalists include a wide array of subject matter ranging from an exciting historical drama of two men battling for their love, a comedy about two men looking for one another in LA, a subversive period drama that weaves characters finding their voices and new paths in life, a fun coming-of-age tale, and a suspenseful story of a spy that develops romantic feelings for a man that happens to be a national security threat. Queer Bits Fall Film Fest will kick off the week of film related activities, with a screening of short LGBT films receiving their Chicago premieres. Winter Memories – an LGBT Showcase

Winter Memories Is a showcase that will feature some of the best and brightest of Chicago’s LGBT talent and allies With musical accompaniment by Justin Harner and Robert Ollis and performers including PFP’s ensemble members Kevin Webb, Libby Lane, Sam Button-Harrison, Jude Hansen and Donterrio Johnson as well as special guest performances by the Burlesque beauty Po’ Chop and story telling by Rose Freeman. PFP Artistic Ensemble Member Jordan Phelps is the creative director for the evening. The evening begins December 1st at 7:00pm at Twisted Vine, 3530 N Halsted, an intimate cabaret in the heart of Boystown. Tickets are $25 for reserved seats and $20 for general admission. Food is available from the Twisted Vine menu, and there is cash bar available. Each ticket holder gets entered in a drawing for holiday door prizes. ‘The Submission’ by Jeff Talbott

Pride Films and Plays is thrilled to follow up its sold-out Jeff Recommended run of Terrence McNally’s Some Men with the Chicago premiere of The Submission by Jeff Talbott, winner of the 2011 Laurent’s/Hatcher Award and the Outer Circle’s John Gassner Award for Best New Play in 2012. Pride Films and Plays is accepting LGBT short films seeking their Chicago premieres for Queer Bits Fall Film Festival which will be held on November 10th, 2014 at The Public House Theatre. Pride Films and Plays’ Queer Bits Film Festival is now in its third year and prides itself in providing the best LGBT short films with their Chicago premieres. Pride Films and Plays presents Queer Bits Fall Film Festival on November 10th, 2014 at The Public House Theatre (3914 N Clark, Chicago, IL) at 7:30 PM. The first screening and incarnation of Queer Bits occurred in November 2012 in Center on Halsted’s Hoover-Leppen Theatre. The enthusiasm for that and a subsequent festival in November 2013 led Pride Films and Plays to continue the festival as an on-going event alongside their annual Great Gay Screenplay Contest. In June 2014, Pride Films and Plays presented Queer Bits Film Festival, a sold-out 90 minute program of short films and webisodes, which was followed in September 2014 by the Women’s Words Film Festival, a very successful program of short films and webisodes with lesbian characters and themes which were written and/or directed by women.
