“Nearly 50” – Pride Arts Center celebrates its first Pride Month on Broadway with 30 days of plays, readings and special events On the cusp of the 50th Anniversary of the seminal gay play The Boys in the Band, Pride Arts Center presents a slate of readings, productions, and special events that look at gay works past and present. Staged readings are The Boys in the Band by Mart Crowley (1968) and Jumpers for Goalposts by Tom Wells (2013), a British play about homophobia in sports. Limited run productions include David Pevsner’s solo show Musical Comedy Whore, and BEDS, a double-bill of classic plays Jerker (1986) and Two Boys in Bed on a Cold Winter Night (1995). Special events include a staged reading of The Great Trans* Play Contest winner, SheFest – an evening of performances featuring queer women, Queer Bits Film Festival, and the Broadway in the Broadway Cabaret. The celebration will conclude with Unity in Dance, with choreography by members of Giordano Dance Chicago. Performances will be in The Broadway, Pride Arts Center, 4139 N. Broadway, except as noted. Leading off the festival on Wednesday May 17 will be a staged reading of The Boys in the Band.More…

Chicago’s Most Lauded Singers Perform Together For One Night Only at NOMINEE NIGHT Tuesday, May 23 at 7:30 PM at Pride Arts Center! Chicago’s best musical theater performers gather for one night only on the same stage when the 2017 Jeff Award Nominees are honored at Nominee Night, May 23 at 7:30 PM at The Broadway in Pride Arts Center, 4139 N Broadway. Pride Films and Plays brings you an exciting evening showcasing musical performances from the Best Actors and Actresses, and Best Supporting Actors and Actresses nominated for the 2016/17 Non-Equity Joseph Jefferson (“Jeff”) Awards. All proceeds from the evening benefit the New Musical Initiative at Pride Films and Plays. General Admission tickets are $20. VIP tickets are available for $30 and include reserved seating and program recognition (if purchased by May 12). Door prize tickets will be available for purchase win bottles of wine, and $400 in gift certificates from Southwest Airlines. Broadway’s CAPATHIA JENKINS and RAYVON OWEN headline PFP’s Simply Sensational

Pride Films and Plays’ annual fall benefit, Simply Sensational, celebrates the greatest songs written for women in the Broadway canon, with Broadway great  Capathia Jenkins headlining.  American Idol star Rayvon Owen has now joined the cast ! Descend the stairs below 4707 N Broadway to the speakeasy cabaret at Uptown Underground and hear Broadway’s greatest songs for women performed by the best women – and men – in Chicago’s musical theater scene. A select number of VIP tickets are available for the benefit at $150, and include a pre-show reception with appetizers and open wine bar at 6 pm at Uptown Underground, 4707 N Broadway. LezFest 2016

Pride Films and Plays is delighted to present its fourth installment of LezFest; a one-night variety show which features lesbian and genderqueer performers through music, movement, spoken word, storytelling, and stand-up comedy. LezFest IV is produced by PFP company member Carolyn Reynolds and is directed by Patrice Foster and will feature exciting new talent as well as some past performers who have helped make this event a sold-out success three shows running. Performers in LezFest IV include Ali Hoefnagel, Lauren Sivak, Avi Roque, Tien Tran, Niki Gee, Alex Dauphin, Mia Vivens, Riley Mondragon, Jessica Paul, Ana Martinez Medina, Black Heaven, and Goddess Warrior. LezFest IV: A One Night Fling is Monday, July 18th at 7pm at Mary’s Attic (5400 North Clark). General Admission tickets for LezFest are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Chicago legend Alexandra Billings is the featured performer at SIMPLY SENSATIONAL

Pride Films and Plays’ annual fall benefit Simply Sensational celebrates Chicago legend Alexandra Billings. The event is Monday, November 2, at Stage 773, 1225 W Belmont. A select number of VIP tickets are available for the benefit at $175, and include a pre-show reception with appetizers and open wine bar at the Marketa Sivek Gallery at 1123 West Belmont. VIP ticket holders also enjoy reserved center-section seating for the 7:15 pm performance at Stage 773 at 1225 W. Belmont, and a post-show meet-and-greet reception and photo opportunity with Miss Billings and the cast. General Admission tickets are $75 and include the performance and a post-show reception. Others in the all-star line-up include trans performers Honey West and Skylar Kergil.
