About Pride Arts Center

Pride Arts Center has two theater in Chicago’s Uptown/Buena Park neighborhood. The 85 seat Broadway is in what would have been the ballroom when our building was built as a hotel. The 45 seat Broadway is a typical Chicago storefront.  They each have nice lobbies with washrooms and water fountains, and have plenty of heat and air conditioning.

Pride Films and Plays is a non-profit that is the primary tenant in Pride Arts. Pride Films and Plays is budgeted to produce 4 shows in the bigger space and 2 in the smaller space.  PFP also produces a series of community outreach events – film fests, LezFest, cabaret or comedy shows – that generally have one or two performances

The Broadway

We aspire to be a year round facility where people from the neighborhood and from around the globe can see excellent queer centric works which are essential viewing for all.

The Ballroom Clock in the Broadway

Chicago theater lore insists the ballrooom, which is now the Broadway theater, was once a speakeasy, and the basement had tunnels to the lake (long before LSD was filled in) so they could get booze to the joint easily.
